POSITION: Director of Strategic Initiatives
This exciting new position was created to support the development of a new strategic vision, associated organizational goals and objectives and to provide ongoing analysis, planning and evaluation in order for ARL to achieve high levels of mission driven impact and performance.
In close collaboration with the President, this full time salaried confidential position provides leadership for strategic and business planning. The position requires significant planning experience, demonstrated technical and analytical skills, and the ability to successfully work across all functions within ARL including: animal welfare programs and policy, finance, fundraising, marketing, and human resources. The Director must also have strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with a broad spectrum of internal and external stakeholders including senior managers and the Board of Directors.
Once a strategic plan is adopted the Director will subsequently coordinate the development of internal business plans to integrate and achieve strategic performance goals. In this capacity, the Director will function as an internal consultant providing project management structure and analysis for ARL managers across the organization.
Business planning is likely to identify changes in current programs and/or the need for new programs. Here the Director will coordinate in collaboration with key managers, the planning and development of programs and services including: workforce, budgetary and operational requirements.
Experience in the animal welfare field is required as the Director will serve as a national and regional representative for ARL. Through these relationships the Director will keep the organization aware of emerging practices, funding opportunities and collaborations and will lead in the development of grant proposals for major program initiatives.
The Director will also lead ongoing assessments and evaluations of performance measured against organizational goals and with industry best practice.
Previous strategic and business planning in a non-profit organization and a successful track record of leading and driving change is required. BA/BS degree required. Five to ten years of increasingly responsible leadership and management experience in the field of animal welfare is essential.
