Fun Facts

More than 11,000 runners will gather in Woods Hole for the 2015 Falmouth Road race, including many of the world's elite distance runners.  Event organizers continue to focus on making the race a fun run. “Back-of-the-pack” joggers share the road with the best, “forming a tapestry of colors from the start on Water Street to the finish at the beach in Falmouth Heights.”

The race has become part of the fabric of summer on Cape Cod, with runners and spectators coming back year after year.

Falmouth Road Race Fun Facts

  • The race was first held on a Wednesday afternoon because it founder Tommy Leonard's birthday.
  • The course is 7 miles because that was the distance from the Captain Kidd in Woods Hole to Tommy's workplace, The Brothers Four, in Falmouth Heights.
  • The ARL has fielded a team in the Falmouth Road Race since 2013.
