Controller

This 40-hour salaried position is responsible for all accounting, tax and internal and external financial reporting, as well as providing leadership and direction to Accounting staff. Must work in collaboration with and provide support to the Chief Financial Officer and oversee all aspects of the Accounting Department. This is a hands-on position and candidate will be responsible for (but not limited to): payroll, monthly and yearly reports, fixed assets, bank and investment accounts, insurance,  cash management, internal controls and accounting for restricted and unrestricted funds under UPMIFA. Responsible for the general ledger, monthly closings, monthly financial statements and quarterly internal audits. Full responsibility for annual audit including preparation of tax return schedules as well as tax filings. Oversight of accounts payable, accounts receivable and cash receipts. Trains and supervises Accounting Department staff. Reports all financial findings, statements, reports and audit information to the Chief Financial Officer by required due dates.

Must have an MBA or CPA with at least 7 years of previous accounting experience. Minimum of two years of supervisory experience required. Computer literacy required and experience with Great Plains Dynamics, Microsoft Excel and Windows applications preferred. Successful candidate must be a highly-organized and detail-oriented professional who’s motivated to learn and can operate in a fast paced Accounting environment.

Assistant Director of Advancement Operations

Founded in 1899, the Animal Rescue League of Boston is a full-service humane society, providing emergency rescue services, law enforcement, veterinary and animal behavior care, mobile spay/neuter, shelter and adoption services throughout Massachusetts. 

The Animal Rescue League of Boston is seeking an exceptional Assistant Director of Advancement Operations to join our Advancement Department! Each year, the four-person Advancement Department at the Animal Rescue League of Boston processes an average of 30,000 gift transactions from approximately 21,000 donors using an average of 35 appeals into 70 funds on RE 7.83.  Constituent records in the database total almost 160K.  In addition, each year approximately 1,600 gifts are processed via the Convio web giving platform.  Average total public support annually is $2.6 million. The Assistant Director for Advancement Operations will oversee day-to-day operational functions of the Advancement Department by performing or supervising the workflow and execution of all Advancement support operations, including gift processing, gift acknowledgement and letter generation, prospect management, monthly reconciliation with Finance, donor stewardship, web site maintenance, and events. This position will also be responsible for the success of the monthly sustainers program (Champions Circle) and the Tribute giving program and may on occasion take on targeted solicitation activities. 

In addition to a BA/BS degree and a minimum of four years of work experience, the successful candidate must have expert-level knowledge of Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge software and the ability to create and execute new reports and queries.  This position requires outstanding attention to detail, excellent writing and interpersonal communications skills and a genuine commitment to mission.
