Pre-surgical Instructions

Please adhere to the following guidelines:
  

• Your pet is going to have major surgery. A spay or neuter is a very routine surgery, however it is still surgery using general anesthesia. 
• Please do not allow your pet access to any food or water after midnight the night before their surgery. If your pet does ingest any food or water please inform us for the safety of your pet. If your pet has not fasted they can vomit under anesthesia which can cause serious complications. 
• All cats must be in separate plastic cat carriers (1 cat per carrier please) and all dogs must be on a leash. No pets will be accepted in cardboard boxes not designed for animal transport. Please do not use laundry baskets, leashes on cats or place pets in duffle bags. If you need assistance acquiring a carrier, please contact us. 
• Please remove all flea collars 10 days prior to your pet's surgery. Flea collars contain chemicals that can interfere with the anesthesia.  
• Female dogs cannot be spayed while in heat. 
• Please arrive no later than 8:00 a.m for females and 8:30 am for males (if you have both sexes, arrive at 8:00 am). You will be expected to stay for 1 hour after arrival time.  Late arrivals will not be accepted.  Appointment fees are non-refundable unless cancelled 48 hours before the appointment date.
• Your pick-up time will be sometime later that afternoon. Please make arrangements to pick up your pet at the designated pick up time. If pets are not picked up at the appropriate time, they are considered abandoned and brought to one of our animal care facilities. There will be a $30.00 late fee charged per pet.
• Please bring any paperwork regarding your pet's previous veterinary history. 
• Please be sure to bring extra money in the afternoon in case the veterinarian needs to send your pet home with any medications. We accept cash or Mastercard/Visa debit/credit cards only at the surgery site. Personal checks will not be accepted.
• The Spay Waggin’ mobile unit does not have a lobby or waiting area, so please dress accordingly.
