POSITION: Boston Shelter Manager

RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Shelter Operations

The Animal Rescue League of Boston (ARL) is a private non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing domesticated animals and wildlife from suffering, cruelty, abandonment, and neglect. As a humane society, we provide: animal sheltering and adoption services to include behavioral and medical rehabilitation; veterinary services to include our community clinic, shelter care, and mobile spay/neuter services; emergency rescue services, and humane law enforcement throughout Massachusetts.

ARL is currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Shelter Manager for our Boston location. Responsibilities include: general overall day to day supervision and operation of the animal shelter and associated activities, relating to the adoption center, the intake center and the animal care/shelter areas. Must be able and willing to perform, teach, and supervise all jobs, staff, and activities associated with accomplishing all aspects of the shelter’s operations, required daily in accordance with the standards and procedures established by the ARL and the Guidelines for Shelter Standards of Care.

We are seeking candidates with a BA/BS degree; a minimum of 5 years of animal welfare and animal handling experience is required. Three years of direct supervisory or management experience is also essential. The successful candidate will possess a high level of professionalism, strong interpersonal skills and exceptional coaching and mentoring capabilities.
