Visit the Presidential Pets exhibit at the JFK Library in Columbia Point (South Boston) from 11am – 3pm to meet ARL representatives and learn more about our important programs for people and their pets. \nClick here to purchase ticket for Saturday\, September 27\, 2025. \nThe Presidential Pet exhibit is open through January 4\, 2026. \n— \nDo you have a pet? Chances are the answer is yes. Around 66% of U.S. homes include at least one companion animal—that’s 86.9 million households. These homes have included the White House\, which dogs\, cats\, horses\, goats\, birds\, rodents and reptiles have called home. Through objects\, photos\, letters\, recordings\, film and interactive display\, this exhibit looks at some of these animals and their presidential owners over the course of two and a half centuries\, when pets took on roles as workers\, companions\, trend setters and political tools. \nSome of the non-human occupants of the White House featured are: \n\nRebecca\, a raccoon sent by a supporter to the Coolidge White House for the president’s Thanksgiving dinner who became a pet instead\nLaddie Boy\, an airedale belonging to Warren G. Harding whose birthday parties were Washington social events\nFranklin D. DESCRIPTION:ARL is happy to announce that we have been selected as a recipient of the Buffalo Exchange Tokens for Bags® program from July through December 2025. You can now support ARL just by shopping at Buffalo Exchange in Somerville and in Brookline. Instead of a plastic bag\, the Tokens for Bags® program offers every customer who makes a purchase one “token” valued at five cents (the cost to produce a bag) to donate to one of several local charities selected by the store. The program has generated over $982\,840 for hundreds of local nonprofit organizations since 1994 and has saved over 19.65 million plastic bags from the landfill.
