We’re joining our community partner Zoo New England for the global “Gorillas on the Line” mobile phone recycling challenge! Did you know… Cell phones contain coltan, a material mined from the western lowland gorilla's natural habitat. Because of the major cell phone demand, the Congo’s coltan mining business has increased rapidly in recent years. This has led to dramatic destruction of the natural habitat of great apes, bringing this species closer to extinction. When recycled, old electronics can have a major impact on the lives of gorillas.
