Did you know… Cell phones contain coltan, a material mined from the western lowland gorilla's natural habitat. Because of the major cell phone demand, the Congo’s coltan mining business has increased rapidly in recent years. This has led to dramatic destruction of the natural habitat of great apes, bringing this species closer to extinction. When recycled, old electronics can have a major impact on the lives of gorillas. ARL is happy to announce that we have been selected as a recipient of the Buffalo Exchange Tokens for Bags® program from July through December 2025. You can now support ARL just by shopping at Buffalo Exchange in Somerville and in Brookline. Instead of a plastic bag, the Tokens for Bags® program offers every customer who makes a purchase one “token” valued at five cents (the cost to produce a bag) to donate to one of several local charities selected by the store. The need is greater than ever. We have already gotten more than 930 calls for pet food, but our resources have been pushed to the limit, and we are struggling to meet the demand. Pets and their families urgently need your help! Goal: 5,000 lbs. of food for local pet families You can fight pet hunger by purchasing critically needed food through our Amazon wish list or Chewy wish list. Unopened, unexpired, shelf-stable pet food may also be dropped off at any of our three locations in Boston, Dedham, or Brewster (Cape Cod), Wednesday through Sunday, from 1:00pm to 6:00pm. Barks in the Park

The Animal Rescue League of Boston (ARL) is pleased to participate in the first Annual Barks in the Park event in Harwich. This free, fun-filled event is for pet lovers and families, featuring a wide variety of attractions including pet fashion paw-rade, live music, and food trucks.
