Whiskers & Wine: A Special Night for ARL’s Biggest Supporters

On Tuesday, May 16, the Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston played host for more than 200 of ARL’s biggest supporters during the third annual Whiskers & Wine President’s Council Spring Reception.

The annual event gives ARL’s corporate sponsors, Board of Directors, Leadership Council, President’s Council (those who donate $1K or more annually), volunteers, and staff the opportunity to toast and celebrate its most committed supporters, who make our important work possible.

Throughout the evening, the historic Oval Room was alive with conversations containing a common thread — ARL’s continued excellence and stand-alone innovation in being an unwavering champion for animals in need. Click here to see photos.

During the speaking program portion of the evening, key ARL stakeholders discussed the impact that our donors’ generosity has on the thousands of animals who receive care through ARL’s programs and services each year. ARL served 17,884 animals in 2016 alone!

Malcolm McDonald, ARL’s Board Chair, kicked off the speaking program in grand style, with a big thank you to everyone who made the event, and the organization’s important work possible. He spoke emotionally about the bond we all share with animals, and with excitement about the innovative vision for ARL’s future.

ARL President Mary Nee also shared the successes of 2016, and the progress that has been made during Year 1 of ARL’s new mission statement of being an unwavering champion for animals in need, committed to keeping them safe and healthy in habitats and homes.

“Our new mission and vision will guide our work in the years to come by providing community based service, getting to the root cause of problems, helping both people and animals, supporting accessible community-based veterinary services, and advocating for permanent changer to law and policy protecting animals,” Nee said.

To demonstrate ARL’s new mission in action, guests enjoyed a film highlighting the organization’s “Community Cat Initiative” which is the first of its kind in Massachusetts. Click here to see an in-house produced video about this exciting initiative!

Walter Kenyon, ARL’s Leadership Council Chair, closed out the evening by sharing his thoughts and excitement about ARL’s future, and once again thanked those in the audience who are truly committed to making a difference in the lives of animals in need.

VERY SPECIAL THANKS TO… Our generous donors for expressing your love for animals, compassion, and kindness through your support of the Animal Rescue League of Boston!

…and to our corporate supporters of Whiskers & Wine 2017…

Animal Art is Here to Stay

Local Artist Gives Lobby Art on Permanent Loan

Mildred, an ARL alum.

Mildred, an ARL alum.

Thanks to South End artist, Paula Ogier, the art in our Boston lobby will be staying up indefinitely!

Paula dropped in at the Animal Rescue League of Boston one day in January 2013, just to take a breather from her work and visit the kitties, and she ended up adopting Tippi. “Tippi was a cautious stray who has blossomed into a playful spirit,” says Paula. “The transformation you make in an animal’s life with the gift of a home is more than matched by the magic they bring as a friend and family member.”

Her artwork was originally displayed at the League as part of Washington Gateway Main Street’s temporary Moving Gallery. The goal of displaying artwork here was to liven up the space and create an instant connection with animals before entering the adoption center. After seeing how her art transformed the lobby and receiving so much positive feedback about her artwork, Paula decided to give the collection on permanent loan to the League.

Thank you, Paula for brightening up our lobby and warming the hearts of our visitors, before they even step foot into our adoption center.

Paula paints pet portraits, and also creates art for use on products. You can view her art or schedule your pet portrait session at www.PaulaOgierArt.com.

Animal Art Brightens Shelter & Helps Animals!

The League has teamed up with a neighborhood organization called Washington Gateway Main Street to bring you beautiful animal art in the lobby as part of WGMS’s Moving Gallery, and we couldn’t be more excited about it! We will be displaying the artwork of South End Artist Paula Ogier, who also happens to be a mom to ARLB alum Tippi (formerly known as Chrissie), in our Boston lobby from now until June 3, 2013. All of the artwork is for sale and Paula has very generously agreed to donate 50% of her net profits to the League!

Paula & Tippi

Paula & Tippi

Paula Ogier is a Boston-based digital painter. Paula’s colorful, stylized approach to pet portraits is intended to creatively reflect an animal’s spirit. Color plays a predominant role in her art and is important to her as a means of expression.

Of course, we couldn’t work with Paula without asking about Tippi! Paula said that “she’s doing really well. She’s filled out a lot since we adopted her in January – she was quite thin then. She’s made herself at home and is so tuned into the routines of the house. She and our 9 year old Siamese kitty Sammy like charging around the house after each other in the mornings. And at night, she’s been slowly but steadily inching her way into our bed. She’s such a sweet girl!”

We are so thrilled to be featuring the work of an artist who adopted from us and who’s artwork portrays animals in such a joyful light! Be sure to stop by our Boston shelter lobby to view some of this incredible artwork!

“The goal of displaying artwork in our lobby is to show people that shelters are not sad places. They’re places of hope,  joy and second chances, and Paula Ogier’s artwork emphasizes this basic idea. The art in the lobby allows people to feel an instant connection with animals even before setting foot in our adoption center.” -Elizabeth Dobrska, Marketing & Creative Coordinator
